90–year old Medak church to be developed as tourist spot

Hyderabad – Andhra Pradesh Tourism Minister J Geetha Reddy recently informed the State Assembly that steps were being taken to develop the 90–year–old Medak Church, the largest in South Asia, as a major tourist attraction.

Replying to P Shashidhar Reddy and S Ramalinga Reddy (TRS) during the question hour, the Minister said a tourist home with kitchen facilities and a Cathedral museum were in the final stages of completion in the compound of the church, built in 1914.

She also said the Collector had recently submitted a proposal for the provision of flood lights, electrical and water works to tourist cottages.

As the church was a private property, efforts were being made to acquire the required land for developing various other facilities for tourists, she said.

Discussions were on with church authorities for further development. It would take six months for developing these facilities after the receipt of land from the authorities, she added.
