Andhra Pradesh: Film team threatened and equipment confiscated

A film team consisting of women who were holding screenings of a Christian film near Hyderabad were threatened and attacked by Hindu extremists on 25 September 2007, this month.

The Christian group from Hyderabad reached Siddipet in Medak district to hold screenings of Karunamayudu (the Compassionate One), a film in Telugu on the life of Jesus.

During the screening at an open space where at least 50 gathered, RSS men numbering 15, disrupted the show by disconnecting the power and destroying the sound system.

After a scuffle with the missionaries among who were their leader Mary Grace, Soujanya, Rani and Srilatha, accompanied by Pastor Prabhuvardham from the Believers Church India, they confiscated the projector.

Filing a complaint at the nearest police station, the police immediately arrived and asked the Christians to leave. The Police Sub–Inspector Nagiah, although promised to return the confiscated projector, is yet to hand over.
