Annual conference of Ramabai Mukti Mission on April 25

80th Annual Conference of the Ramabai Mukti Mission will be held in New Jersey, America on April 25.

Marvin Newell, executive director of CrossGlobal Link and missionary to Asia, will be the speaker at the one-day conference themed, "Missions: God's Passion, Our Vision."

Founded by Pandita Ramabai in 1889, the Ramabai Mukti mission has been in the forefront in serving child widows and destitute orphans. The mission is still active providing housing, education, vocational training and medical services for the widows, orphans and the handicapped.

Born to a very rich orthodox Hindu family on 23rd April 1858, in Karnataka, Ramabai, later embraced Christianity after her personal experience with Jesus Christ.

In 1919, the king of England conferred on her the Kaiser–i–Hind award; one of the highest awards an Indian could receive. Government of India also issued post stamps in honor of her in 1989.

Ramabai was of the elite group who first introduced methods of kindergarten training as well as illustrated books and pictures for village primary schools. She also opened primary and secondary schools exclusively for girls and village children in her Mukti Home.

She became the first to introduce Braille for blind girls, subsequently opening a Blind school in Mukti.
