Archdiocese of Varappuzha celebrates 100 years

Kochi – Blessed by Archbishop Pedro Lopez Quintana, Apostolic Nuncio to India, Archbishop Daniel Acharuparambil and Bishop Francis Kallarackal, the laity of the Archdiocese of Varappuzha recently concluded the year–long centenary celebrations of the shifting of the headquarters of the archdiocese.

The occasion also marked the beginning of Eucharistic Year.

''History is created by a benevolent intervention. I salute the sacrifices of Carmelite Monks as we observe the valedictory celebrations,'' said Archbishop Pedro Lopez Quintana. The Archdiocese of Varappuzha passed through a glorious era during the last 100 years, he said.

Auxiliary Bishop Mar Sebastian Edayanthrath urged the laity to search for humanity that lies beyond the contours specified by religion. Bishop Francis Kallarackal, Fisheries Minister Dominic Presentation, Sebastian Paul, MP, and former Minister K.V.Thomas offered felicitations.

Vicar–General Rev. Sebastian Luiz welcomed the gathering and Archbishop Daniel Acharuparambil proposed a vote of thanks. Keys to eight houses were handed over on the occasion.
