Romans 8:28
And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.
Christian life is about growing mature in Christ, and imitating Him. We, in our hearts, soul and body, are predestined to imitate Christ, so under His sovereignty, Predestination means acting upon God's will to accomplish God's will. Augustine said, "Since God is sovereign over everything, He gives us desire to believe." Calvin also said, "Predestination comes before faith–it causes one to believe." Both of them were rooted in the faith of Paul believed:"And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose"(Rome 8:28).
The emphasis in the Scripture is not on "all things works for the good," but on God who oversees all. And the purpose of "all things works for the good of those who called"is to simply imitate Christ. Whatever happens in the present or future, the purpose is for us to imitate Christ–even through our suffering(2 Cor 4:8).
God's predestination gives us courage and confidence. He leads us to the maturity of Christ. When we stand in front of God's throne with maturity, we will be hearing the voice of angel whispering to us "He or She looks after Christ!" Not only in the future, but the angels whisper to our ears in the present, "You look like Christ!"
Christians should know the will of God who predestined us, called us, justified us and glorified us. "And those he predestined, he also called; those he called, he also justified; those he justified, he also glorified"(Rome 8:30). Then, we should live for His glory knowing that He takes care of us.
