Bangalore – Archbishop Bernard Moras of Bangalore Archdiocese has released the much–awaited marriage preparation resource book, ‘And the Two Shall Become One.’
Calling it a gift to the Indian Church, the archbishop encouraged the priests and laity involved in instructing couples to put the resource book to optimum use.
According to the steering committee of the Family Welfare Centre (FWC) of Bangalore Archdiocese, many marriages are in doldrums and the very institution of marriage is under threat partly because of the media and an avalanche of easily accessible, unqualified information.
In order to save marriages and help couples understand each other better, the FWC took the initiative more than three years ago to come out with a comprehensive and workable resource book for priests and lay workers in India involved in marriage instruction.
The 120–page comprehensive resource book took FWC over three years of research, experiment, consultation and discussions. The book is aimed to catechise couples preparing for marriage, but to also situate them in a real life context and equip them with tools to meet the challenges of daily life.
The book is a compendium of ideas and instructions weaved together by a plethora of professionals, including theologians, parish priests, seminary formators, college lecturers, media personnel, counsellors, psychologists and couples themselves.
FWC has plans to translate the book, presently in English, in other languages as well.
The book contains instruction on human sexuality, inter–personal relationship skills, guidelines to face challenges in marriage, family planning, Canon Law, explanations on marriage, worksheets and self–evaluation tests.
