Bangalore: Pastor and believers arrested for preaching

Police in Karnataka state arrested a pastor and several Christians for preaching the Gospel.

According to a report by the Global Council of Indian Christians (GCIC), Pastor Nelson from Bangalore along with ten other Christians who were on an outreach programme was handed over to the Frazer town police station by a group of 30 RSS activists.

"While they were preaching and distributing tracts in Coxtown, Bangalore, a group of Hindu radicals began intimidating and abusing the Pastor and the Christians for their evangelistic activities," GCIC said.

"Later they pressurized the police to file an FIR against the Christians," GCIC added.

NGO's meanwhile have complained that the arrests are totally false and baseless as the Indian Constitution guarantees the freedom of religion.

Pastor Nelson, founder of Calvary Love Ministries in Bangalore, has been serving from the past 15 years and has a membership of over 150 Christians.

The Pastor and believers have been detained and charged under section 298, 341, 506, 149.
