The Bible Society of India's Dimapur Auxiliary celebrated its silver jubilee on Nov. 6 and 7 at the Lotha Baptist Church, Dimapur.
Dr. BK Pramanik, general secretary of BSI Bangalore and Rev. Dr. Ajoy Kumar Lama, general secretary of Council of Baptist Church North East India (CBCNEI), Guwahati, were the guests of honour at the two-day celebration.
In his address, Pramanik spoke on the importance of Bible and noted how it had transformed the lives of people in the northeast. "The Word of God is powerful and would live for eternity," he declared.
Rev. Lama, in his sermon, said Bible was not just a book of Christians but it was the very foundation of faith and spirituality.
He lamented that Christians were using Bible as a reference book and fail to use it on a daily basis. Reading and understanding the Scriptures, he said, will change one's life and society.
BSI Dimapur Auxiliary was inaugurated on November 6, 1985. It has been serving the people of Nagaland, Manipur and Arunachal Pradesh by translating the Scriptures in local dialects.
The Bible Society of India meanwhile is celebrating the completion of 200 years. The Society has covered about 176 Indian languages till date. Currently it is working on 12 new projects, mainly the translation of Bible to tribal indigenous languages of North East.
