Biennial meeting of Catholic Council of India to be held in Ranchi

Catholic Council of India (CCI) which is the top representative body of Bishops, Priests, religious and lay–faithful members in India, will hold a biennial meeting from December 1–3, 2007 in Ranchi, Jharkhand.

Fr Varghese Pullan, the secretary of CCI stated in a press issue, "The Archdiocese of Ranchi will host nearly 500 representatives from all parts of India participating in the important meet."

The national meet will be themed “the empowerment of women in the Church and society,” while it will also carefully consider the current issues affecting the community and the nation.

On September 23, the Executive Committee of the Council met at St John's Medical College, Bangalore and finalized the details of the meet.

The Executive Committee meeting was presided by President of CCI Cardinal Telesphore P. Toppo who also appreciated the efforts made by the Government of India by heeding to the grievances of the minority communities and also for advancing their socio–economic status in the country.

"The Council urged the Government India to initiate specific administrative and legal steps, similar to those already undertaken in favour of some minority communities, for the educational and socio–economic advancement of the Christian community," said Fr Varghese, quoted CBCI news.
