Boat overturned as flood victim’s fight for food; At least 35 feared drowned.

On Monday 35 boats that were ferrying passengers feared drowned in the overflowing Ganges river in eastern India as the flood victims fought over food supplies and resorted to looting.

District administrator, Sashank Shekhar Singh said, the boat carried about 100 people when it overturned in Samastipur district in Bihar.

"We are looking for survivors. There is a heavy current in the river and we are facing great difficulties," he added.

"It's very dark, there are no lights and more forces are rushing from Patna," Singh said.

Women and children in a Bihar village clashed over small packets of biscuits being handed out by a local aid organization. Some villagers even looted a tractor full of grain, said officials.

"We are surviving on snails as we have nothing to eat," said a flood victim to a local news channel.

The recent floods have affected 35 million people and made 10 million homeless or stranded.

Christian NGO's and volunteers have come forward to help the flood victims by providing food, clothes and shelter to the people.
