New Delhi – Caritas India, the rehabilitation and development wing of the Catholic Church, and its partner agencies recently handed over eight newly built houses to the victims of the tsunami disaster in Elamkunnappuzha village near Ernakulam in Verapoly Archdiocese.
Archbishop Daniel Acharuparambil of Verapoly, Kerala Minister for Fisheries Dominic Presentation, Caritas International Communicator Ms. Kristin Raabe and Assistant Director of Caritas India Fr. Varghese Mattamana were present at the occasion on April 19.
Director of Caritas India Fr. John Noronha said that the Government of Kerala has permitted Caritas India and its partner agencies to build seven hundred fifty permanent houses for the worst affected victims of the tsunami tragedy in Kerala.
Caritas India, in collaboration with other development agencies like Catholic Relief Services (CRS,) is planning to build about fifteen thousand permanent houses for the tsunami victims in different tsunami–hit regions of India.
