The Catholic Church in India has announced the appointment of a new leader in services to the Catholic Hierarchy.
Monsignor Tuomo T. Vimpari, who held office for three years in Delhi, will be appointed as First Counselor to the Apostolic Nunciature in Nigeria.
At the same time, the present person holding the office of Apostolic Nunciature in Nigeria, Monsignor Javier Domingo Fernández González, will be sent as Vimpari's successor in the Apostolic Nunciature in India.
The appointments have been approved by Pope Francis approved.
After mid-February, Msgr. Vimpari will leave Delhi, to reach his new mission, and in the first week of March, Msgr. Javier Domingo Fernández González will join the office in India.
"We congratulate Msgr. Tuomo T. Vimpari on his new appointment, and while wishing him all God's blessings in his new post, we wish to place on record our gratitude to him for all his services to the Catholic Hierarchy and to the Catholic Church in India," said Bishop Theodore Mascarenhas, SFX, secretary general, bishops' conference in India.
"We welcome Msgr. Monsignor Javier DomingoFernández González to India and look forward to working with him. May his Mission in India be filled with God's grace," he added.
