Christians concerned over RSS rally in Orissa

Christians have expressed concern over a rally taken out on 7 April 2008 at Raikia of Orissa, an area known for communal disturbances.

The rally was allegedly taken out without the express permission of the local authorities.

According to sources, around 500 activists belonging to Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), along with tribals, took out the rally, carrying traditional weapons.

There were scores of policemen present, carrying only lathis. Fortunately the rally went off without any untoward incidents.

After the rally, they assembled at the local bus stand where speeches were made targeting Christians. The Christians living in the area were terribly frightened, fearing any possible attack from the fanatics.

β€œIt is a matter of great concern for us. The local leaders should bring to the notice of the District Collector and Superintendent of Police immediately. They should also inform the Orissa Chapter of All India Christian Council to make necessary representation to the State and district officials,” said aicc – Orissa Chapter President Dr Paricha.
