As reported earlier, Christians of various denominations in Shimoga district took part in a rally to protest against the 'Un–provoked attacks' by communal elements on Christian educational institutions on the alleged trumped up charges of conversion in Shimoga yesterday (Aug.6).
Christian community leaders lashed out at the communal elements for creating disturbances in the education institutions belonging to minorities in the town.
A strong 10,000 members of the community across the district took part in the procession which started from the Sacred Heart Cathedral and culminate at the Deputy Commissioner (DC) office via Nehru Road.
A memorandum listing communal activities targeting minority institutions was submitted to DC Anil Kumar.
Recently, Bajrang Dal activists had protested in front of the Sacred Heart Cathedral here opposing the image of Jesus Christ on hand books distributed by the Sacred Heart PU College, Yesudas told reporters earlier that unnecessary confusion was being created by repeatedly accusing the community of indulging in conversion activities.
“We preach religious principles only to the Christian students, and that too after school. Peace–loving Christian community has been hurt by the attitude of Bajrang Dal activists and we seek the support of all secular and progressive people in condemn,” Yesudas, President of Christian Federation, Shimoga District said earlier.
