Church in Karnataka attacked by fifty unidentified people

A church at Yelahanka near Jakkur located in the northern suburb of Bangalore city witnessed an attack by 50 unidentified people, who injured and beat the believers in the church on 19th August, 2007.

On Sunday, as the members of the Indian Pentecostal Church of God (IPC) was holding service, the attackers forcibly entered and locked the doors and windows only to beat the believers.

After injuring the church members, the attackers chased them out of the hall threatening to burn the church hall.

This incident has added to the latest persecution against Christians in Karnataka. Recently, a dozen of Seventh Day Adventist pastors were attacked by a mob of 50 Hindu radicals.

The pastors were later arrested by the police and taken to the Magistrate Court where they were accused of conversion and were sent to judicial custody in Chitradurga (Karnataka) jail.

On August 15th, another church in the state was damaged and the minister of the church, Pastor Sajan Philip, was badly beaten by a gang of 15 extremists.

Christians in the state are deeply angered by the happenings and hope that the Government provides more enhanced security for Christians who remain a minority in India.
