Church vandalized in Dehradun

A Church in Dehradun was vandalized by an angry Hindu mob that injured the pastor and accused the Christians of 'forced conversion'.

Rev V S Bhandari, an Evangelical Fellowship of India (EFI) correspondent in Uttarkhand said, over 30 Hindu extremists belonging to the RSS and the Bajrang Dal barged into the worship hall of Bethseda Church on Monday.

The mob accused Christians of forceful conversion, and proceeded to damage the Christian literatures, Bibles and furniture, he said adding, "They also took the church offering and donation boxes along with some church documents."

Bethesda Church caretaker and Pastor Asher Wasker who was injured by the miscreants, lodged a police complaint with the help of a few local Christian leaders.

Police has arrested three suspected people under Sections 323, 427, 452, 380 and 295 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) for voluntarily causing hurt, causing damage, trespassing and wrongful restraint, theft and for defiling a place of worship respectively.

Dehradun SSP Amit Sinha said the guilty would be brought before justice and protection would be rendered to all sections of the society.
