Churches appeal for responsible Govt formation

New Delhi – The National United Christian Forum on Monday appealed to all political parties to responsibly handle the mandate given in the May 10 Lok Sabha elections.

Reiterating the Church's commitment to secular democracy and fostering peace and harmony, the Forum said: "The people of the country have put their trust in the elected representatives to form the Government that acts in the spirit of the Constitution, if need be through responsible alliances.... This sacred trust should not be betrayed."

The Forum, consisting of representatives of the Catholic Bishops Conference of India, the National Council of Churches in India and the Evangelical Fellowship of India, congratulated the Election Commission for conducting free and fair elections.
It, however, regretted the loss of lives in poll–related incidents in some parts of the country.
It also expressed concern over the discrepancies in the voters' list that denied thousands their right to vote.
