CMC hosts EMCON 2005

Chennai – The Christian Medical College, Vellore (CMC) hosted the flagship of SEMI (Society of Emergency Medicine –India) 7th Indian National Conference of Emergency Medicine, (EMCON) 2005 from October 26 to 28.

The aim of the conference was to highlight relevant and current concepts of Emergency Care in a holistic manner, as appropriate to the Indian scenario.

The theme of EMCON 2005 was 'Critical Decisions in Emergency Medicine'. About 1,000 health professionals from all over India and overseas, particularly from the UK, Australia, the US, Singapore, Sweden and Pakistan, attended the programmes.

The faculty for this Congress were handpicked after much deliberation. They were experienced clinicians from within India and overseas, geared to provide an academic feast and share their know–how. Ample opportunity was created for interaction and dialogue in a formal and informal milieu.

According to Dr. George Chandy, Director, Christian Medical College, CMC Vellore also hosted the first ever Workshop for Emergency Nurses and Paramedics at the 7th National Conference on Emergency Medicine in India during EMCON 2005.

“In almost every accident or life–threatening emergency, the nurse and/or paramedic are privileged care givers whom the patient encounters first. It is the dream of every Emergency Nurse and Paramedic to build confidence and exercise clear thinking in order to initiate appropriate interventions. The workshop addressed all these issues and more," he said.
