Culprits identified in nuns attacks case in Kerala

Thiruvananthapuram, Oct.6: After much protests and demonstrations, Kerala Chief Minister Oommen Chandy today said all the culprits in the recent attacks on nuns of Mother Teresa's Missionaries of Charity at Kozhikode have been identified and five of them taken into custody, keralanext.com reported.

Various human rights organisations, religious bodies and political parties have condemned the attack on nuns and brothers of the Missionaries of Charity at Olavanna Kozhikode.

However, the Chief Minister refused to disclose the political affiliations of the culprits, saying that police had not registered a case based on that.

''Our aim is to ensure that such cases are not repeated in the state,'' the chief minister said replying to a question relating to newspaper reports that all the arrested persons had RSS links.

Speaking to reporters after a cabinet meeting, he said the case had been handed over to the crime branch and added that there would not be any lapse in the investigation and stringent action would be taken against all the accused.

Nine missionaries were injured in the September 25 attacks on them by a group of people at the Mambuzhakkad Mithal colony.

Referring to another case relating to the murder of Catholic priest, the chief minister said the first accused in the killing of Father Job Chitilapilly was already in police custody. The police were probing further into the role of any other individual in the case.
