India could see one of the greatest revivals in the history of the church, says an international evangelist who recently concluded two mega conferences in Tamil Nadu.
"People are hungry. I believe that India could see one of the greatest revivals in the history of the church," said Evangelist Sammy Tippit, who preached to nearly 2,000 pastors last month.
"The nation is emerging as a great economic force and it's the largest democracy in the world. All of those characteristics place the nation in the direct path of the wind of the Spirit," observed Tippit.
The first conference was held in Madurai with about 500 pastors and leaders in attendance while the second was conducted in Chennai with about 1,300 leaders.
Tippit told the pastors that "God wants to send revival to Tamil Nadu".
"This is where Christianity began in India. The Apostle Thomas first brought the gospel here. I pray that God will revive His people during this generation," said Tippit, who has preached to crowds of 50,000 to 100,000 in more than 80 nations of the world.
Hundreds of pastors responded to Tippit's invitation to "wait upon the Lord" to be renewed in strength.
Earlier last month, the American evangelist preached to thousands in Punjab, including civic and political leaders.
"God loves you and has a plan for you and your family. But we have a major problem - sin. God is holy, and our sin separates us from Him. That's why Jesus came to this planet, to take the punishment for our sins," preached Tippit.
Rev. Nazir Masih, pastor of the First Baptist Church of Chandigarh, remarked that "people were coming with open hearts."
"They are hungry, and God is filling their hearts with His love and grace," he said.
Several pastors confessed that the messages encouraged them to endure and be Christ-like. Tippit spoke on "Revival in the Race."
