Five eminent persons awarded Mother Teresa Lifetime Achievement Award

Punjab Governor Gen. (Retd.) S.F. Rodrigues, Haryana Governor A.R. Kidwai and Tamil Nadu Governor Surjeet Singh Barnala were among five people who on Sunday received the Mother Teresa Lifetime Achievement Award.

Mother Teresa's International and Millennium Awards Committee, Kolkata instituted the award in year 2000. It is generally awarded to people for their distinguished service in the field of education, culture, music, social work, sports, industry, medicine and politics.

Mizoram Chief Minister Lalthanhawla and former minister of state for Railways R Velu, were the other two recipients who received the award.

The awards were also presented to 35 other eminent persons from different walks of life whose contributions to the society have been hailed.

Hillary Clinton, Sheikh Hasina, Girija Prasad Koirala, late Rajiv Gandhi, Jyothi Basu, Hema Malini etc were among famous personalities who earlier were presented with the award.
