Flood victims in Bihar and other Eastern states due to lack of food were eating raw wheat floor to survive the ruinous monsoon floods, Christian NGOs seek more generous gifts for the victims.
“Villages in Bihar were eating wheat floor mixed with water due to not being able to cook and the inadequacy of government relief efforts,” said an official. Roads were blocked and relief camps were looted by angry villagers who demanded more food.
Nearly 2000 people have been dead caused by snake bites, drowning, diarrhoea and house collapses since July. Officials report more than 60 bodies being found since Saturday, pushing the death toll to 480 in Bihar.
"We are sleeping and eating inside the trucks as there is water everywhere and we have nowhere to go," said, Anukul Samanta, a villager in West Midnapore district. Even drinking water, has been difficult, complains Ankul.
Meanwhile, Christian volunteers and aid agencies serving the flood victims have increased and are on high alert and service. They are seeking more help from generous donors around the world.
