New Delhi – There are over 1 billion people in the world living without access to potable water and several reports claim that the majority of them live in India. To alleviate this problem, Living Water International has stepped in and is now actively involved in making provisions for safe drinking water available all over the nation.
Jerry Wiles, President of Living Water International, says many Indians are not allowed access to water. "In several cases, in rural areas specially, many Christians are denied access to the community water supply. In those areas, we have been able to cooperate with small church planting movements and assist them in drilling a water well. These believers freely share their water with people from other religions and that really opens the door for the Gospel."
Ministry leaders believe this oppression is not going to change with change of leadership in the government. Emphasizing the need of expanding their work in India, Wiles said, “We've done well over 100 water project in India. Of course, the need is vast and we have many other requests to do water projects. We can drill a water well for about $1,200."
To accomplish this, they're working with many Christian groups, including regional Church planting movements. "It super charges everything in terms of evangelism and church planting as well as medical missions when you can provide a clean drinking water component," says Wiles.
