Govt. urged to set up Christian Minority Development Corporation

At a function organized by the Karnataka Christian Federation in Bangalore, Merajuddin Patel, the State president of Janata Dal (secular party) said, he was convinced that the "Christian minorities in India need a separate Christian Minority Development Corporation."

He Urged the Government to set up an independent minority’s development corporation for the benefit of Christians and also said he would request the consideration of party's national president H.D Deve Gowda and chief minister H.D Kumaraswamy.

Mr. Patel further said there is a need of Christian Corporation as the present Minority Development Corporation is not extending support to the Christian communities and the problems particularly in socio–economic and political empowerment of the Christian minorities are not addressed.

He also revealed his concern for the Dalit Christians, SC/ST communities that have lost their benefits enjoyed as a Dalit–before conversion. He said, the same rule and benefits provided to other Dalit communities must be applied to the Christian minorities.

Philomena Peris, leader of the women’s wing of JD(S) said, the Christian community in India is still hopeless and requires the attention of the Government.
