Hindu hardliners allege receiving death threats from the "Christian community"

Ahmedabad – International general secretary of the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP or World Hindu Council) Pravin Togadia and Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi – both infamous for their right–wing Hindu ideologies – have received death threats from the “Christian community,” VHP sources have alleged.

According to Abhay Singh, a local VHP office bearer, the death threat was delivered by post to the VHP office in a sealed envelope. “The letter has warned both Togadia and Modi of dire consequences if they do not stop their anti–Christian activities. We have intimated the police and the state Home department regarding this threat letter,” he said.

The letter, hand written in Gujarati, also threatens that the members of the “Christian community” would self immolate if Togadia and Modi fail to adopt a sympathetic view of the minority community in Gujarat.

The letter also threatened that it was a “last warning” being given to the two leaders.

Incidentally, Togadia received another death threat via post recently, allegedly from the fugitive Al Qaeda leader, Osama Bin Laden.

Gujarat CM Modi also received a “threat” and “abusive” email last December and following investigations, police had arrested one Omar Siddiqui who was based in Delhi in this connection. However, he was pardoned by the Modi soon thereafter on compassionate grounds.
