Hindu nationalist schools spreading

Union Human Resources Minister Arjun Singh has criticized schools run by Hindu nationalists, claiming that instead of leading Indian youths "to the right path," the schools were becoming a threat to the secular nature of the society.

Speaking to reporters recently, Singh warned the public to the wary of the "venom injected into society by them" and possibly avoid these schools altogether.

Criticizing educational institutions run by the Saraswati Shishu Mandir that were established as early as 1952 for the purpose of helping the Indian youths grow and be an asset to the society, Singh said that these institutions were indulging in imparting rigid religious doctrines to the students and creating divide on religious lines.

According to Singh, the Central Advisory Board for Education has been monitoring these schools for quite some time and has now prepared a report on what they teach.

"We are looking into what can be done," Singh said, adding that a possible ban on these educational institutions was not ruled out.

"Nation should understand the damage done by such institutions. [. . .] The country is one and we cannot have different kinds of education for different religions and different regions," he said.
