Hindu political leader calls for suicide squads to fight terror

Chief of the Hindu nationalist political party, Shiv Sena, has urged Hindus to form suicide squads to counter Islamic terrorism, which is on rise in the country.

In an editorial published in 'Samaana', party supremo Bal Thackeray rued that in the Thane bomb blasts several Hindus were injured. Thackeray went on to say that, instead, Hindus should attack Bangladeshi concentrated areas of Mumbai.

"The threat of Islamic terror in India is rising. It is time to counter the same with Hindu terror. Hindu suicide squads should be readied to ensure existence of Hindu society," Thackeray said.

The controversial editorial, further added, "When I heard of Hindu's making bombs, I was happy but the fact that there were used to injure Hindus made me feel ashamed of them."

While critics have severely reacted to the comments of Thackeray, the state Chief Minister, Vilasrao Deshmukh said, it was not just Muslims behind the terrorism and that Hindus too were involved in it, citing the arrests of four Hindu militants involved in the twin blasts at the auditoriums in Navi Mumbai.

“Normally, when such incidents take place, the Muslim community is suspected. But the arrests of the four people belonging to a militant Hindu organization prove that such suspicions are baseless. Criminals do not belong to any religion,” Deshmukh said.

Thackeray urged the Hindus to make “powerful and strong bombs,” that are superior to those made by “Islamic terrorists” and explode them in Muslim populated areas in Thane, Navi Mumbai, Aurangabad and other cities in Maharashtra, to what he called as “mini–Pakistans” in India.

Shiv Sena, which is known for its hard line Hindutva stance, is a close ally of Bharatiya Janata Party, which has orchestrated several attacks against the Christian community in the past. The groups were also accused for the recent attack against the Christian community in Orissa.
