Identification Parade in nun rape case today

The test identification parade of accused persons in the rape of a nun during the Kandhamal violence will be held today, January 5, official sources said.

All the 10 men arrested on suspicion will be put through the parade at the Choudwar Jail in Cuttack district, Orissa.

"While fixing 2pm for the TI parade, the court order expected the victim nun and Father Thomas Chellan to be present at the jail at the scheduled time," the jail superintendent Dharani Dhar Das said. "We have not received any revised order."

The investigating team is expected to file the chargesheet in the case by January 28, 2009, within 120 days from the date of the arrest of the accused.

The 28-year-old nun was gang-raped and paraded naked on August 25, when the assassination of a local VHP leader and four of his aides triggered violence.

At a media conference in Delhi, she accused the police of standing idle when pleaded for help. She even refused to assist probe by the crime branch, saying she had no "faith" in the Orissa police.

She later however agreed to cooperate after the Supreme Court turned down a petition of handing the case to the CBI.
