Bangalore: The Global Council of Indian Christians (GCIC) early this week thanked Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh for his assurance to set up a commission for the minorities for providing direct affiliation to their institutions and lauded his ‘pro–minority’ move.
''We are thankful to you for your resolve to empower the minority community to bring parity in private and public employment opportunities and partake in the fruits of our democracy and involve in nation building for a better future,'' GCIC Convener Sajan K George said in a letter to the Prime Minister, a copy of which was released to the Press here.
He hoped that the new initiatives would prevent the harassment of minority institutions by almost all State Government education departments to furnish minority certificate every year.
''We are thankful to you for your concern for the minorities and your determination to introduce minority development measures focusing on backward sections among the religious minorities,'' Mr George said.
"Your attempts to address the emotional needs of the minorities will go a long way in bringing harmony and peace," he added.
