Kerala Bishops' Council this week denounced the attacks on its educational institutions that took place during a Marxist protest rally on June 8.
The Communist Party of India (Marxist) while observing the 'black day' - in protest against Governor R S Gavai's decision to permit CBI to prosecute party's state secretary Pinarayi Vijayan - attacked a church and few Christian educational institutions in Alappuzha diocese.
Strongly reacting to the unseemly act, the deputy Secretary General of Kerala Catholic Bishops' Council (KCBC), Fr. Stephen Alathara, said, "resorting to violence by any political party while protesting is always anti democratic."
He said the attacks were the reaction of the Communists who received a severe drubbing in the assembly election last month.
Fr Althara said the church only protested the Communists targeting the Christian faith and moral values through laws and educational reforms.
Earlier, the Catholic Church was up in arms against the introduction of communist ideas and anti–religious texts in school text books which they pointed was set to "divert young minds".
The Communist government also proposed to penalize couples having a third child, in a bid to control the population.
The KCBC meanwhile has clarified that it was not against any political party and it is willing to enter into talks with the Communists.
