Missionaries accused of "distributing blasphemous literature"

Activists of the Vishwa Hindu Parishad accused a group of Christian missionaries including three women, who were clouted for "distributing blasphemous literature against Hinduism."

The incident occurred, during the month-long Magh Mela festival in Uttar Pradesh.

When the news of four car-borne Christian missionaries distributing pamphlets "reached VHP's camp situated nearby, a volunteer was sent to fetch a copy of the pamphlet and to our horror we found all sorts blasphemous things about Hinduism," alleged senior VHP leader Manoj Srivastava.

"We thereafter rushed and caught hold of the missionaries and gave them a good thrashing before handing them over to police," he said.

The police has however not registered any case against the missionaries and let off after a warning "as the offence was not of a grave nature and the episode also involved women".

VHP has demanded the Mela administration stern action against the missionaries, according to JaiBihar.
