Nation prepares for the 60th Independence Day celebration

On August 15th, tomorrow, India celebrates its 60th anniversary of Indian Independence Day which is one of the greatest event marked in the Indian calendar.

Under the leadership of Mahatma Gandhi, India was freed from the British rule and became an independent nation on August 15th, 1947. 60 years passed and India today is proud to witness the development and power it gained with the other world countries.

Although India is considered a pluralistic, multi–lingual, and multi–ethnic society, India still today stands unified amidst all its diversities.

Cardinal Telesphore, the president of the Indian Bishops Conference said, “We are proud Indians, and we are especially proud that our ancestors chose this motto “Satya Meva Jayate” meaning “Truth Alone Triumphs” which is written below our National Emblem– one of the National symbols of our Freedom."

“Sadly however, in reality this remains only an ideal, and as we celebrate 60 years of Independent India, may God who guides the History transform this ideal into a reality for our Beloved Mother India”, quoted Asia News.

“Only when Truth, Justice and Peace are realized together can the India be holistically called ‘Great Nation– which is what Truth is about: Satya Meva Jayate”, added the prelate.

In New Delhi, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh will unfurl the national flag and address the nation in a speech from the historic Red Fort.

The police and security forces are on full guard as the nation expects threats and terrorist attacks by the anti–social elements.

Meanwhile, believers are praying that the country will celebrate a peaceful Independence Day tomorrow.
