New Christian party launched

Vellore, Tamil Nadu – On March 31, Friday, to represent the cause of the Christian community as a whole in the state Assembly, a new party christian party, All India Christian Munnetra Kazhagam (AICMK), was launched in Bagayam, Vellore.

“We have different sects within our religion and each sect like the Roman Catholic, Protestant, Pentacost, have separate units to represent their causes in the different fora,” said Willam A Joseph, founder and president of AICMK. But to bring all of them under one umbrella and to represent our community as a whole, this new party is launched under the label of AICMK, he added.

Even though the AICMK will not contest in the forthcoming Assembly elections, we would extend our support to a political party based on the decision the party members make on a general body meet which would be organised on April 8, said William.

At the launching ceremony held on Friday, around 5,000 members from various states like Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu and Pondicherry participated, he added. William Joseph was earlier leading an NGO called Mother Teresa which had an Old Age Home and an orphanage in Bagayam.
