New CSI bishop for Karnataka dioceses

The Church of South India (CSI) on August 28 will install Rev Dr John S Sadananda as the new Bishop of the Karnataka Southern Dioceses.

CSI moderator Most Rev J W Gladstone will consecrate Dr Sadananda at a ceremony to be held at Shanti Cathedral in Balmatta, Mangalore.

An Old Testament scholar, Sadananda currently serves as the honorary president of the Senate of Serampore College

According to a release from CSI, Rev Sadananda will oversee CSI churches in Dakshina Kannada, Udupi, Kodagu, Chikmagalur, Hassan, Mandya, Mysore, Chamarajanagar, Kasaragod (Kerala) and Talavadi (Tamil Nadu) districts.

A native of Udupi, Rev Sadananda was ordained into religious order through pastoral formation in the year 1969. He joined Karnataka Theological College as lecturer in the year 1974 and later in the year 1983, he secured his doctorate from Coettingen University.

He also has been functioning as the principal of Karnataka Theological College and the secretary of Karnataka Christian Educational Society.

The Church of South India is the second largest Christian church after the Roman Catholic Church in India. It came into being as a union of Anglican and Protestant churches in South India in 1947.
