Aizawl : The Joint Peace Mission Team of North East India (JPMT), in collaboration with the Mizoram Church Leaders Committee, has garnered the support of church leaders, senior citizens and youth, to explore ways and means for bringing peace in the state.
The JPMT highlighted the issues responsible for disturbing the peace in the region, including economic deprivation, lack of good governance, corruption, unemployment, farmers’ lack of incentives, lack of infrastructure and market, rural–urban division, lack of vision and commitment and intra–ethnic conflict, UNI reported.
“The JPMT has been active and made important contribution during the past ten years, helping the people to resolve the conflict situation in Assam, including Kokhrajhar, NC Hills, Haflong, Diphu and Churachandpur,” JPMT sources said.
“Recently, we have also been taking up important issues related to greater civic responsibility, integrity and uprightness in public life, combating corruption, to inspire, motivate and scrutinise general public awareness about different forms of social evils,” the sources added.
The contributions of para–church organisations and Churches in the region have been very valuable in avoiding many conflicts.
