Nun to co-operate with Orissa police

Archbishop of Cuttack-Bhubaneswar Raphael Cheenath told reporters here that the Catholic nun raped during the communal violence on August 25, was willing to co-operate with the Orissa police.

Requesting for a change of venue for the identification parade, Cheenath said, "She is under treatment and therefore cannot travel such a long distance."

"She had undergone a traumatic experience at Kandhamal, therefore she would not like to go there again to identify the culprits," he added.

Earlier during a press conference on October 23, the 28-year-old nun refused to co-operate with the police investigation and demanded for a CBI probe.

In her written complaint, she alleged that she was raped and paraded naked. She accused the police of 'standing idle' and abetting the rapists when pleaded for help.

Orissa government later suspended five policemen and sought the nun's co-operation in identifying the rapists.

"We have offered to provide her all security and requested her to cooperate," Director General of Police Manmohan Praharaj said.
