Nuncio urges new diocese to serve people through education and healthcare

New Delhi – The new diocese of Gulbarga, led by Bishop–elect Robert Michael Miranda who was consecrated as the first Bishop of Gulbarga, has been urged to work for the total development of the people of the area and provide quality healthcare and education, Christian Today has confirmed.

The Apostolic Nuncio in India, Archbishop Pedro Lopez Quintana, who inaugurated the new diocese of Gulbarga, on August 18, lauded the work done by the Catholic Church in the districts of Bidar, Bijapur and Gulbarga, especially in leprosy eradication, social development and education.

The apostolic nuncio urged the church organisations of the new diocese to work hand in hand with the government and other organisations to provide better heath care, quality education and speedy development of the poorer sections of the society.

The new diocese has been carved out by taking the district of Bidar from the Archdiocese of Hyderabad, Gulbarga from Bellary and Bijapur from Belgaum.
