One more arrested in nun rape case

With the arrest of one more person in the nun rape case, the number of people arrested has gone up to 11.

"Jayaban Digal, a resident of Sainpada village, was arrested Saturday night," investigating officer D.K. Mohanty told IANS from Kandhamal.

"We are likely to arrest about four to five more people in the near future," he said.

On August 24, according to a statement to media, a Hindu mob protesting the murder of VHP leader Laxmananda Saraswati, raped and paraded the Catholic nun naked. She later accused the Orissa police for standing idle while pleaded for help.

Stating that she has no faith in the investigation, the nun was earlier reluctant to attend the identification parade of the accused in Kandhamal despite orders by a court.

The parade was conducted Jan 5. The victim identified only two of the 10 people arrested. A final charge sheet will be submitted to the court after the concluding of the investigation.
