Orissa High Court agrees to shift the TIP in nun rape case

After all the hue and cry, the Orissa High Court has finally agreed to shift the venue of the Test Identification Parade (TIP) to Cuttack in the nun rape case.

Last month, citing security reasons, the 29-year-old Catholic nun had pleaded to change the venue for the TIP outside Kandhamal.

Although the court, earlier this month rejected the plea, on Monday agreed to shift to Choudwar Jail on the outskirts of Cuttack city. The bench of Justice B K Patel granted the petition.

The petitioner's counsel, Sujata Jena confirmed that "the court has ordered to shift the venue to Cuttack."

"A petition will be submitted on Tuesday in the Baliguda court after which the date for the test identification parade will be fixed," she added.

According to the state Crime Branch, the second TI is required, as five more accused has been arrested in the case.

The nun was raped and paraded naked on August 25, 2008, in the aftermath of the killing of a local VHP leader.
