For the first time a priest from the Archdiocese of Cuttack–Bhubaneswar, Fr Ajay Kumar Sabhasundar was elected the president of Indian Priests, Sisters and Brothers Union (IPSBU) in Rome for the year 2007–2008.
“As I am the only one from our diocese and a very few priests and sisters from Orissa, I would never imagine that I would get such important office of this association. I believe it is God who wanted me here and therefore with all my humility, trusting in His mercy I have accepted this office.”
“It is nothing of my own merit but God's grace. I am confident with God's grace and by your special prayers and blessings. I will be able to carry out this responsibility," Fr Ajay said.
In 1950, a group of priests, religious, and seminarians from India, with the distinction of Simon Cardinal Lourdusamy a patron, the IPSBU was founded. The unit also includes the association of eminent professors, teachers, councilors, a few also serving in the Secretariat of State of Vatican City, in different congregations and Pontifical Councils of the Roman Curia, in the Vatican Radio.
The association has more than 1600 members and strives to nurture all its members as active participants for religious, intellectual, cultural and national purposes. The motto of ISPBU is “SERVIRE DEO ET INDIAE.”
