Pleas for prayer; Freedom for Christians the priority

Christian religious leaders in Pakistan urged Churches and Christians worldwide to pray for the minority Christians in the country, who are suppressed and tortured by the Islamic fundamentalists.

Recently, the activists, threatened Christians in North West Frontier and Punjab Provinces, to either convert to Islam or leave the country. If none adhered, they were cautioned to face death.

“The latest threat was delivered on August 25th,” reported Minorities Concern of Pakistan, a human rights organization.

The threats are not seldom and are being ignored by the police who seem very slow to act. Similar warnings are even received by Hindus and Sikhs, who form a minority, in the country.

Recently, two Christian girls were kidnapped and converted, after being forcibly married off to Muslims.

The voices of Christians in the country fall deaf and feeble even as the governing authorities fail to curb the issue and bind the religious fundamentalists behind the atrocities against Christians.

The country comprises of Muslims 97.6%, Christians 1.7% and Hindus 1.5%. 70% of the microscopic Christian population is the poorest portion of the society.
