An influential Christian body in the country has asked the government to provide security to the Church in the city.
The Christian Action Committee has strongly condemned the attack on Christians in the provincial capital Quetta on 26 August and have demanded maximum protection for Churches from the government. The Committee also demanded the arrest of all the people who attacked a church.
The members of the committee held a demonstration outside the Quetta Press Club on Tuesday, 28 August.
They condemned the attack and alleged that those involved had used abusive language and insulted the women in the church.
The committee’s chairman Asif John said that on 26 August about 30 people came to the church in the city and injured the worshippers.
He said the police was informed and some people were arrested. However, a majority of them escaped. He urged the government to deploy police near the churches.
Christians number about 1.5 percent of 161 million (UN 2005) population; in an overwhelming majority of them practicing Islam, the state religion.
