It was a doleful loss for Mizoram. The Church on Dec. 17, yesterday, bereaved the loss of a distinguished Church leader, Rev. Zairema, who died after prolonged illness at his residence in Zarkawt.
The 92-year-old pastor of the Mizoram Presbyterian Church was the first native Mizo to pass Bachelor of Science and Bachelor of Divinity.
He is known for his contributions and for his stand in rendering peace in the state during its political turmoil. It was Zairema that brought the subversive Mizo National Front (MNF) to discussions with the Centre.
Apart from penning several books, and even translating the Bible into Mizo language, the Christian, recently completed a book on Mizo religion before the advent of Christianity.
He was conferred Doctor of Divinity by the Serampore College, West Bengal, and Doctor of Literature by the North Eastern Hill University for his wide-ranging contributions to the church and the society.
Meanwhile, the Church faced another dearly loss, with the demise of Dr. T.C. George, Superintendent of Assemblies of God Church, yesterday.
