Saffron goons beat Christian teacher in Karnataka

A Christian teacher was on Saturday assaulted by miscreants owing allegiance to a saffron party in Karnataka.

On Oct. 23, Br John Philip, vice-principal of Holy Cross School, Whitefield, was assaulted by a mob of over 300 who alleged misconduct with girl students.

The incident occurred while Philip was returning home from school. The miscreants allegedly belonging to the Jaya Karnataka Vedike called up local media channels and before full public view beat Philip on spurious charges.

One source said the inspector of the Whitefield police station as well assaulted Philip and took no action against the miscreants.

Philip told a team of the All India Christian Council (aicc) that it was a planned attack primarily because he was a Christian.

Also, the girl who complained of being teased is the daughter of NG Reddy, a local BJP member.

Reddy, who also started a school in the same area, failed to make his institution a great success. Philip said this could probably be the reason for the attack.

Philip is now recuperating at a hospital in Whitefield. He has reportedly suffered several bruises on his face and is finding it difficult to talk and eat.

Philip belongs to the Catholic Holy Cross community.
