The God of Miracles

As we work in our ministries, sometimes our hearts become dry and we become tired and weary. Sometimes we come across extremely difficult situations and we wish that God performed a miracle and helped us out.

The Bible is full of stories of the miracles performed by Jesus. He healed the sick, made the blind see, made the lame walk and made the dead alive. The Old Testament is full of stories of how God intervened in the lives of Abraham, Jacob, Joseph, Elijah, Samuel, Gideon, Joshua, Moses, David and many others. But, unfortunately, not all of us get to see God or experience miracles in our lives. This sometimes make us withdrawn, dejected and even doubt whether our God is a Living God and whether He can perform miracles.

So can our God, the Living God, perform miracles? The answer is yes, of course, He can! God can perform miracles and He is ever–ready and ever–willing to let us experience those miracles in our lives. But there is a slight hitch. We need faith. Faith to believe that God can perform miracles and faith to believe that we can experience those miracles in our very lives.

The Bible is full of stories of people of faith. Many of those who were healed by Jesus were also commended by him as having great faith. Often, Jesus said, "Your faith has healed you." Let us look at the story of the woman who was bleeding for twelve years. The story is recorded in both Matthew as well as in Mark.

The woman who was subject to bleeding for twelve years came up behind him (Jesus) and touched the edge of his cloak. She said to herself, "If I only touch his cloak, I will be healed." Jesus turned and saw her. "Take heart, daughter," he said, "your faith has healed you." And the woman was healed from that moment. (Matthew 9:20–22).

Who is this woman? In Mark, it is recorded that this woman had been subject to bleeding for twelve years. She had suffered a great deal under the care of many doctors and had spent all she had, yet instead of getting better she grew worse. When she heard about Jesus, she came up behind him in the crowd and touched his cloak, because she thought, "If I just touch his clothes, I will be healed." Immediately her bleeding stopped and she felt in her body that she was freed from her suffering. (Mark 5:25–29).

How great is the faith of this woman? This woman could not be healed by any doctor and yet she believed that the Lord could heal her of her sickness which she was suffering from for twelve years.

Sometimes, having faith looks foolish. This woman thought that just by touching the cloak of Jesus she would be healed. This is not logical thinking. This is not rational thought. But who said that faith was logical, reasonable or rational?

What is faith? Faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see (Hebrew 11:1). Unless we have the eyes of faith, we cannot experience miracles in our lives. Remember, without faith, miracles do not happen. Anyone who comes to God must believe that He exists and that He rewards those who earnestly seek Him (Hebrew 11:6).

What did Jesus say about faith? Jesus always tells us to have faith in God. According to Jesus, "Whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours." (Mark 11:24). Jesus always tells us to have faith in God. According to Jesus, faith can even move mountains! "If anyone says to this mountain, 'Go, throw yourself into the sea,' and does not doubt in his heart but believes that what he says will happen, it will be done for him." (Mark 11:23).

Whenever we face any hardship or difficulty in our lives, before turning to anyone else for help, we must first seek out our Father in Heaven above, our Father God Who is always ready and willing to help us out, bless us, protect us and guide us.

When we seek out Father God, when we earnestly pray to Him, believing that our prayers have already been granted, God will listen to us. And He will grant us our prayers.

In Mark it is recorded that when the woman touched the cloak of Jesus, He realized at once that power had gone out from Him. Jesus realized that someone had touched His clothes. And, when Jesus found out that the woman had done it, instead of getting angry or annoyed with her, he commended her faith. "Daughter, your faith has healed you. Go in peace and be freed from your suffering." (Mark 5:34).

Like this woman, when we face extreme situations in our lives, let us pray earnestly, with faith, and tug the heart of the Lord.

But remember, simply having faith is not enough. We should act upon it. We should pray and do whatever we can do. If this woman had simply believed that she could be healed and had she not approached the Lord and touched his cloak, perhaps she would not have been healed. This woman had not only great faith, but also she acted on her faith. Faith + Action = Miracle.

Like this woman, let us be the ones who can believe with absolute faith that what we pray for, will be granted. And, having this absolute faith, let us seek and ask God. When we have this level of faith, God is certain to listen to our prayers and answer our prayers.

Actually, God is seeking people of faith like this woman. And, God is always ready and willing to pour down His grace and blessings upon those who believe in Him and seek Him out.

What is faith? It is impossible possibility. Believing the impossible to be possible. Let us be the ones who can be commended by God for our faith. Let us be the ones who can feel the presence of the God of miracles in our lives. Amen.
