Third accused nabbed in nun rape case

The second Test Identification Parade (TIP) in the nun rape case on Tuesday produced 70 accused among which the victim has identified one.

The TIP held at Choudwar jail identified Sitaram Patra (36) as one of the accused who raped the 29-year-old nun, a crime branch official said.

The nun was raped during last year's Kandhamal violence that followed the murder of a senior VHP leader.

With the latest arrest, the hunt for accused persons has ended and charge sheets will be filed against those identified.

The first TIP was held on January 5 when the nun identified two of the ten accused. With the arrests of more persons, another identification parade was required.

Although the case was earlier fixed at Baliguda jail in Kandhamal, with the victim being apprehensive of going to the riot-hit district, the court agreed to shift it to Cuttack.

The nun was allegedly raped at K Nuagaon, 70 km from Phulbani on August 25, 2008.
