A top Indian space research scientist has lauded the contribution of the Catholic Church to national development, specially in the field of education and healthcare.
Speaking at a function, March 4, to commemorate the launch the official magazine of the Archdiocese of Bangalore, Dr. K. Kasturirangan, the former chairman of the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO), said, "It is a matter of pride for me to have studied in the Church–run St. Xavier's College in Mumbai. My son passed out of the portals of St. Joseph's Bangalore."
"The Catholic Church has done tremendous service in the fields of education and healthcare," he said. "Catholic institutions are very important, for they provide excellence, quality and creation of spiritual and moral values in the growth of an individual."
"And in healthcare, the Church has a sense of service and preference for the poor and its affordable medical care is appreciable," the scientist said.
