The four–day Transform World: India 2006 conference conducted in Hyderabad, Andhra Pradesh, that began on October 24 and concluded successfully with a prayer rally on October 28 has drawn over 1000 dignitaries from 40 nations across the world, uniting everyone in effective witness to the whole Gospel.
The conference, organized by the Evangelical Fellowship of India (EFI) and the All India Christian Council (AICC), was inaugurated by Chief Minister, Dr. Y.S.R. Reddy.
The Christian dignitaries who were present included Dr. Luis Bush, chairman of Transform World; Nanci Ricks, executive director of Dalit Freedom Network (USA); Rev. Richard Howell, general secretary, EFI; Dr. Joseph D'Souza, president, AICC; and Dr. G. Samuel, vice–president, AICC.
"The Christian missionaries have set a model in bringing transformation in the state of Andhra Pradesh as well as in the whole of the country," said Dr. Reddy in his inaugural sppech. "The tradition of mission continues in India even after European missionaries have left India."
"All the achievements after this government came to power in 2003 is through the grace of God with the prayer support of the Christians churches," the Chief Minister testified.
"The symbol of Christian faith and religion is the cross. To the Christian communities and churches, the cross signifies the victory over all evils," Dr. Joseph D'Souza said in his welcome address. "The evil of poverty, the evil of prostitution, the evil of women trafficking, the evil of female foeticide, the evil of child labor, the evil of casteism, the evil of racism, the evil of religious fascism and all other form of evils were defeated by Cross."
Transform World: India 2006 is the long awaited conference where Christians of the nation and from around the world can come together to discuss and debate on how to bring the total transformation in the lives, families, communities, villages, towns, cities and nations through the fullness of Jesus love and his teaching.
The conference focused on exalting Jesus through worship, empowering God's people through transformational mission, encouraging and motivating servant leaders in various streams of transformational ministries in India and abroad and expressing solidarity with the Dalit–Bahujan communities as they seek to free themselves from the shackles of caste–based oppression and servitude.
Meetings of the 30+ focus groups like Nation Building, Women, Poor and Education, etc. proposed ways that the body of Christ can bring the transformation in the Indian society and other parts of the world.
The conference was followed by Transform World's meeting, Hope for the Global Poor, which is a coming together of three of the Transform World focus groups plus many other practitioners, who have the commonality of working with the poorest of the poor, to network and to learn from each other.
It featured three days of seminars on topics of interest to the practitioners such as health, micro–enterprise, techniques for working with the poor, transformational techniques, literacy, agriculture, and scaling–up their ministries through multiplication.
