New Delhi – In a public meeting organized by the Hindu right–wing outfit, the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP or World Hindu Council), in Jamdoli, Rajasthan, the VHP chief, Ashok Singhal, has warned the people to beware of the alleged nexus between various Christian mission groups and the Naxalites (regional insurgent groups) and has alleged that local people “were being terrorized into conversion by different Christian missionaries.”
According to BosNewsLife reports, Singhal claimed that “all those who dared to obstruct them were told that they would be gunned down by Naxalites.”
The VHP chief did not even spare the ruling Congress party president, Ms. Sonia Gandhi, who, he said, was also influenced by ‘Christian forces.’
Several Christian mission and evangelical groups fear that the inflammatory remarks made by the VHP chief may lead to communal violence in Rajasthan where Christians continue to face the hostility from the Hindu community.
Lately, the VHP and other Hindu organizations have expressed their concern about the alleged “growth and spread” of Christianity in India and have launched anti–Christian campaigns and ‘reconversion’ drives to curb the activities of Christian missionaries.
