World Assemblies of God Congress next week in Chennai

The Assemblies of God, one of the largest Pentecostal fellowships in the world, have chosen Chennai as the venue for its sixth triennial Congress.

Thousands of lay people, pastors and international delegates from around the world are expected to gather for the World Assemblies of God Congress to be held from February 6-9, 2011.

This joint event has been described as a "time for the entire Assemblies of God family to gather together to thank God for His great grace in the past and present and ask for His blessing in the future."

The Congress will be hosted by the New Life Assembly of God Church, a 40,000 member church in Chennai, founded by Rev. David Mohan.

"The AG World Congress will serve as the launch for the goals leading up to 2020. Each member country will be asked to bring goals they have set for their individual country to the Congress to combine for the worldwide goals," said a note from the organisers.

The Congress will have a variety of breakout sessions on topics such as prayer, church planting, evangelism, women in ministry, mentoring, small groups and the suffering church.

Speakers at the Congress include Dr. George Wood, General Superintendent of the Assemblies of God, USA; Prince Guneratnam, senior pastor of Calvary Church in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia; Dr. John Bueno, executive director of Assemblies of God World Missions; and others.

"Every three years the World Assemblies of God gathers together for what is called the World Assemblies of God Congress. This time we will gather at the NLAG, a fabulous church in Chennai city. This would be a powerful opportunity for Christians to see the church of Jesus Christ in action," remarked Dr. George Wood, who is also the chairman of the WAG Fellowship.

There are currently over 60 million believers and 300,000 Assemblies of God churches across the world. With over 140 national fellowships, the WAGF forms the sixth largest international Christian group of denominations.
